Dar, Lee, Mark, and Maddie welcome you to our world of Suri alpacas. Our adventure started in 2004 after Dar saw a documentary about alpacas and the history of the efforts to increase their numbers by a limited export for breeding.
After a little further reading, we visited our Provincial Alpaca show the following spring. There, we were captivated by the noble grace of the Suris. In a forum nearly filled with the cuddly fluffy Huacayas, the few sleek and lustrous Suris stood out.

We did more research and ended up purchasing foundation stock from Stewart Alpacas, who were wonderful guides as we started on this journey. Along the way we have met many great people, taken several courses, and watched our herd grow and thrive. The gentle serenity of the Suri alpacas has been a calming force in our otherwise hectic lives. We have specialised in full Peruvian animals of natural solid colours ranging from true white to true black, and everything in between
Our herd Matriarch is an original import named Gertie who we call "Gertie The Great". She rules the herd with a keen and watchful eye, and considers every creature to be her responsibility. She has produced amazing champions of all colours, and is a sweetheart.
Our Herdsire is Hannibal. This 2007 Reserve Grand Colour Champion is a unique stud. He is actually very nurturing. He keeps a close eye on both males and females and is the first to alert me when something is amiss. He is a real sweetie and very gentle. However, when it comes to breeding, he was an early starter. His first baby was born this spring, so that means Hanni was about 18 months old when he sired his first cria. He is the alpaca most people come to see because he is just such a goofball.
Together with the humans these two help run our herd.

It has been wonderful, fascinating, and humbling these past few years. It hasn't been easy struggling to rebuild our lives, but the Suris have been the very best part of every day.
It has been said that every hour spent with alpacas adds a day to your life. Many people find the calming nature and soothing sounds of alpacas helps restore their spirit and ease a troubled mind. You are welcome to drop by Serenity Suris and find out for yourself.
