The Perth County Alpaca Business Collective is pleased to announce our
spring 2010 course line up.


Join our team of experts for a new season of continuing education.

All programs include meals and snacks as indicated.

These courses will be held at the Gowanstown Town Hall, Corner of HWY
23 and Line 88 in Gowanstown.

Bonus: Two people from the same farm taking both courses will receive
a $10 per course discount. (Spring Tune-up and Breeding Choices are run at the same time so one person can not take both on that day)

Dar Long presents another in her series of popular

“Holistic HerdHealth” seminars – Fresh Starts Sign up

Presented by Darlene Long, RN., MHSc., CH., CNM.

This 1 day hands on program will feature new and updated formulas and
remedies you can prepare and use to promote a healthier happy alpaca
herd. Winter creates a huge stress on our animals, just before we
demand the most from them with shows, birthing, shearing, etc.
Enhanced nutrition, fibre enrichment and strengthening, treating minor
ailments and injuries before they become major issues, and special
formulas for pregnancy/lactation/conception improvement will be
featured. This program will contain essential and volatile oils and
herbs, and appropriate attire should be worn, as you will be creating
your own remedies and herbal preparations.

Cost $90.00 – Meals and handouts included.

Registration: Must be in by March 7th, with a $30 deposit cheque to
hold your spot.

Breeding and Genetics - Getting What You Want Sign up

Presented by Deb Griffey, Associate Diploma in Agriculture.

Deb will look at only the genetic and breeding principles you really
need to know to make appropriate breeding choices for your herd.
Presented in simple terms from the perspective of the alpaca breeder,
this course will prepare you to make the most of your breeding season.
There will be plenty of time for Q&A and discussion.

Cost $80.00 – Meals and handouts included.

Registration:  Must be in by March 7th, with a $30.00 deposit cheque to hold your spot. 


Alpacas For Dummies Sign up

(or, what you really wish you knew about this business)


April 16,17 and 18, 2010. To be held at the Gowanstown Hall. The
entire collective comes together to present this extensive program,
which will focus on the following topics:

Friday, April 16, 6:30-9:30: Business plans, tax details, farm
registration, farm set up, environmental farm plans, access to
government programs, and developing your farm business.

Saturday, April 17, 9:00-4:30: Alpaca care, herd health, birthing and
breeding, nutrition, feeding, fencing, shelter and handling.

Sunday, April 18, 9:00-4:00: Focus on Fibre - Shearing, sorting,
skirting, and end products. This will also include a mill tour.

Cost: $175 including meals and snacks.

Register by March 22, 2010, deposit of $50.00 required to reserve your spot.
